Derrick Nation grew up in the mountain hillside of Guayama, Puerto Rico. Later on in his early youth he would move to the Sunshine State for his family to pursue a better life for them. As a young adult Derrick found himself interested in artwork and drawing.

During his High School years he found a bonded affection with comic books. Starting of reading Valiant Comics that he would buy as a bundle at the Dollar Store. Often sketching the images of comics such as Solar, Man of the Atom and Youngblood. He then eventually moved on to the better comic books, like  Marvel and Image Comics, admiring the inks and story lines of Todd McFarlane from Spawn and other other artis and writers such as Stan Lee, Alex Ross, Frank Miller, and Kevin Smith. This fascination of comics engulfed him into the cult of comic book nerds,  and following and gaining knowledge of everything that involved his favorite comics, artist, and writers. Often sketching and emulating their artwork.

He enlisted in the Navy weeks after high school  graduation as an Aviation Machinist Mate in 2003 with the objectives of pursuing a useful trade, traveling, and gaining tuition for college afterwards. During the time in the military he became involved and learned other art forms such as music, skateboarding, and tattoos. Learning to play bass and guitar, the street art of skateboarding, and the art and philosophy of tattoos. Also traveling the world and admiring other arts and cultures.

Soon after his honorable discharge in 2007 he discovered the trade of Graphic Design. He attended Valencia Community College in Orlando witch is were he made this discovery and gained a new view point and passion for art. He was amazed that this line of work could involve any type of art that he was ever interested in. His passion for art and drawing was now entwined with a Walcom tablet and a Macbook Pro. This technique and style of art has evolved his skills and imagination, which has evolved him into the artist he is and I am because i am derrick nation.
